Palm Sunday

palm

Today as Christians we honor Christ’s triumphant entry into the Holy City of Jerusalem. In many churches the reading of the Passion occurs today, the last Sunday of the Holy Season of Lent.

Matthew 21:1-11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The Triumphal Entry

When they approached Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples [ahead], 2 saying to them,“Go into the village opposite you, and at once you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, you should say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and without delay the owner will send them [with you].” 4 This happened so that what was spoken by the prophet would be fulfilled, saying:

5
“Tell the daughter of Zion (the people of Jerusalem),
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Gentle and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

6 Then the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them, 7 and they brought the donkey and [a]the colt, and [b]placed their coats on them; and Jesus sat on the coats. 8 Most of the crowd spread their coats on the road [as before a king], while others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of Him, and those that followed Him, were shouting [in praise and adoration],

“[c]Hosanna to the Son of David (Messiah);
Blessed [praised, glorified] is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest [heaven]!”

10 When He entered Jerusalem, all the city was trembling [with excitement], saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Footnotes:

Matthew 21:7 A colt that had not been used was considered holy by the Jews and was fit to carry a king.

Matthew 21:7 A sign of homage and recognition of Jesus’ kingship.

Matthew 21:9 “Save now!” or “Save I pray!”

Gave all

Some food for thought.

Mark 12:41-44:
41Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts.42Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.

43Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions.44For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

Solemn Day

Today is my birthday, however it is one of the most solemn and Holy days for a Christian; today is Good Friday, the day Jesus of Nazareth was put to death for the sins of all mankind.

My birthday wish is for peace and for all to reflect on that GREAT sacrifice that was made for us this day.

Réquiem ætérnam dona eis Dómine; et lux perpétua lúceat eis. Requiéscant in pace.Amen.

Keeping and Honoring Christmas

//www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/7xtpJ4Q_Q-4?rel=0

Since we have started our Advent Journey in preparation to honor the day we celebrate the birth of our Savior on Christmas Day, I’d like to share a few thoughts that I have.

First I’d like to share a little story I read many years ago to put things into perspective.  “The Blessed Mother awoke from a dream and was weeping.  Her spouse Joseph, asked her what was wrong.  She told him ‘I dreamt that on the day of Jesus’ birth instead of giving gifts to God and honoring my Son on this special day; people went out and spent all they had to give presents to other each other.  Why would people do this when this day is a miracle from God and not honor our Savior with gifts for His day?’ Mary continued to weep and Joseph consoled her the best he could. What gifts have you given to Christ this Christmas?”

1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) For in like manner, because the body is one and there are many members in it, while all of them are many members, they are one body; thus also is The Messiah.  For we also are baptized by The One Spirit into one body, whether Jews or Aramaeans or Servants or free men, and we are all made to drink The One Spirit.
